I met Marie Bertrand at SkinScience one year ago, on my 45th birthday in April. Dr. Barber at the Dermatology Centre, had referred me to Marie with regard to my questions about skin-care products that I could use along with my prescription. Marie looked at my skin and announced that I had very nice skin along my temples. I think she was trying to find something positive to say. My skin wasn’t horrible. It was the skin of a 45 year old. One who has taken care of her skin throughout her adult life without having had access to the specialized products that I can now purchase through Skin Science. My skin’s texture was uneven, as was the colour and I’ve had some sun exposure. I’ve also had some acne, which is what the prescription from Dr. Barber is for. I still have the oily T-zone that has plagued me since my teens. I had to see Dr. Barber every few months so that he could zap (with electro-surgery) away the milia on my face. Milia are tiny hard white bumps that grow under the skin. I’ve had dark circles under my eyes since I was a child, and along with the fine lines that were beginning to become more apparent, I felt that I needed to see a plastic surgeon.

One year later (my 46th birthday is in two days) I’m happy to say that my skin has improved. Does it look like the skin of a 20 or 30 year old? No, not at all. However, it is smoother, the pores are smaller, I have fewer blackheads, and the milia don’t appear as often (this is great because it kind of hurts when they get zapped). Best of all, when I ran into a friend last month and we were commiserating about the effects of aging and peri-menopause, she looked at me and said, “But you don’t have any wrinkles.” She’s right. I don’t have as many wrinkles as most women my age, or even younger. I still have an oily T-zone, and dark circles and fine lines around my eyes. But, thanks to Marie’s Imaging System, I know that my skin is in better shape than more than 80% of women my age, and it’s still improving.

Marie recommended a whole new skin-care system. We meet every few months and she changes the products I use as needed. I can call her anytime to ask questions, or if I have a problem. She gave me make-up to cover the dark circles and got me hooked on mineral foundation, which I love to use for light coverage. I don’t intend to see a plastic surgeon and I can now even go without foundation which I haven’t done in years. To top it off, the products I buy from Skin Science are affordable. I don’t spend anymore than I would if I was purchasing from a cosmetics counter in a department store. I love that fact because although I know it’s important to take care of myself, I’m a mom and a wife, and I don’t like over spending on myself. I can go to Skin Science and come out feeling good and knowing that I look good too.
